Mayfield Central School Superintendent Paul G. Williamsen welcomed all MCS faculty and staff members to the 2010-11 school year by highlighting the Board of Education goals for the year.
"The students and their achievements are the most important focus of our work here at MCS," he said in his Opening Day remarks. "With all the changes going on in the world of education right now, we can’t lose sight of why we are here."
The superintendent discussed the possibility of merging services with Northville Central Schools. “We are in this together. You will be a part of that discussion,” he assured staff members.
"We are a family. We need to trust and respect each other in each of our roles – from bus driver to custodian to teacher. We need to love what we do every day."
Approximately 1,000 students returned to MCS schools on Wednesday for the 2010-11 school year. Like many districts, Mayfield holds an "Opening Day" general meeting with all faculty and staff members to mark the start of a new year.
Williamsen was joined by Board of Education Vice President Janis Frisch in welcoming back the faculty and staff, and commending them for the work they all do every day. “We must never forget the reason behind every decision,” Frisch said. “It’s all for the students.”
In his remarks, Williamsen listed several areas the district will be focusing on this year. In addition to the merger study, the district will continue to take steps to ensure the short- and long-term fiscal stability of the district. The district will also continue to create and maintain a culture of high student achievement by providing instruction that is both rigorous and relevant, and enhance programs to engage each individual student.
In his closing remarks, Williamsen said, "Throughout the year, remember
to be courageous. Be courageous in your classrooms.”
