In the hopes of establishing a school-wide climate of respect and other good character traits, Mayfield Central Elementary School students attended the first of four Character Education Assemblies on Monday morning.

The entire elementary student body was brought together to learn about this month’s character theme: “Respect.” Principal Mr. Criscone, School Counselor Mrs. Lair, School Psychologist Mrs. Lozier and Assistant Principal Mrs. North acted out skits portraying examples of good behavior and kind words. A number of 6th grade students performed a dance to routine to the song “Respect” by Aretha Franklin.

According the Mrs. North, the character education assembly is a new addition to the character education program at Mayfield this year. “Creating a set time for everyone to come together and share a common language is ideal,” she said.

Students will be attending these assemblies four times throughout the school year. The theme for October will be “Responsibility.” Students also learned how they can be recognized for “Student of the Month” and how to earn tickets for good behavior.
