Last year, the local community bought 330 gifts thanks to the Mayfield School District Santa Tags program, and this year, organizers expect about the same number.
The formula is simple but effective: families call the Santa Hotline at the school and request a toy or article of clothing from Santa. Santa’s helpers write down the information on tags, which are then placed on a holiday tree around town. Families then pick up their gifts at the Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church on Monday, Dec. 20.
“We’ve helped a lot of people and this is huge in the community,” said organizer and Mayfield Elementary school nurse Linda Hand. “It really takes a load off parents and local organizations have really helped.”
For the program, the school pairs with the Presbyterian Church, Mayfield Methodist Church, Northampton Diner, and other organizations. Families can receive food baskets, and each family also gets a dozen cookies.
