March 4, 2011
Mayfield Elementary School physical education students are getting out
this March and enjoying the snow. Students in grades 3-6 are learning
how to cross-country ski during their physical education classes.
This is the second year in a row that Mayfield students are being given
an opportunity to learn to ski. The students are being taught how to
properly use equipment, how to find correct size skis, boots and poles
as well as ski safety and etiquette. We live in such a beautiful part of
the country and during the winter months cross-country skiing is a great
way to get out and enjoy that beauty of nature, as well as get some
great exercise.
Mayfield has been very fortunate to have a large number of donations of
skis, boots and poles. However we could always use more, with equipment
breaking and going out of date. If anyone would like to donate
cross-country ski equipment to our physical education program they can
simply drop it off at our elementary main office or contact Mr. Moore at
661-8251 or moore.brian@mayfieldcsd.org if other arraignments need to be
made.
Physical education teachers Hillary Cool and Brian Moore would like to
thank Ryan Bornt the Nordic ski coach for grooming the ski trail this
year, as well as all of the other faculty and staff for their support of
this program. Many teachers have put on their own skis and boots and
joined their classes on the trail.
