leaf bullet Mayfield Jr. /Sr. High School going green

June 10, 2011

Mayfield Jr. /Sr. High school plans to implement more green initiatives starting this summer with the introduction of the “Parent Portal” and “Student Portal.”

The software gives parents the ability to view certain aspects of the students’ academic records online instead of receiving paper copies four to eight times per year.

“Instead of wasting paper and postage, it’s digital,” said the district’s network administrator Tonya Christman. “We’re saving on printing costs and parents can access the information anytime they want.”

Students’ schedules, attendance history, progress reports, and report cards will be available through the Portal. In the future, other categories will be available for parents including bus information, and access to grade books.

“The Student Portal will give our students a taste of what to expect when they go to college. The Parent portal gives parents a more organized way to look at their students records and basically provides ‘one stop shopping’ for documents related to their child’s education,” Mrs. Christman said.

Superintendent Paul G. Williamsen said the district is making every effort to reduce costs while eliminating its carbon footprint.

“This is another step in the right direction for Mayfield,” he said. “We are very pleased to offer this service to parents. And it will not only help us communicate with them better, but it will help us reign in expenses, especially in these times of tight budget constraints.”

To access Parent Portal, parents must go to the district website at www.Mayfieldk12.com and follow the link to the eSchoolData webpage when they receive their account information in the mail. Account information is scheduled to go out with final report cards. If you do not have Internet access, please call the guidance office at 661-8213.
