College-bound seniors and their parents can now fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as of January 1, 2012. HESC (Higher Education Services Corporation – a state agency) is offering a special FAFSA Assistance Hotline at 1-800-808-1790, that offers live help for students and parents each Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 5:00 pm to answer any questions about completing the FAFSA. The hotline will run through February 28th.
Fulton Montgomery Community College is also offering a Financial Aid Day on Saturday, February 11, 2012 as part of a SUNY-wide Student Financial Aid Day Program. Financial aid professionals will be at the FMCC to offer services to prospective college students and their families. The program is designed to answer questions and provide assistance regarding the financial aid application, types of aid available and the award process. Parent and students can get hands-on assistance with completing the FAFSA on the web. Participants are asked to register on-line at www.suny.edu/studentevents or by calling 1-800-342-3811. Participants should bring the following information with them to fill out the FAFSA: their FAFSA PIN numbers (requested at www.pin.ed.gov) , driver’s license, bank statements and investment information, social security numbers, estimated 2011 federal income tax return, W-2 forms and 2011 untaxed income info.
