New York State Elks Association Scholarship

This scholarship is open to graduating seniors that have parents/grandparents that are Elks in good standing at the time of the application. The award is for one year only and is made in amounts determined by the Committee. Awards are based on the student’s scholarship, citizenship, personality, leadership, perseverance, patriotism and financial need. Completed applications need to be submitted to the sponsoring Elks organization by December 5th.

Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship

This scholarship, sponsored by the Elks National Foundation, is for any graduating senior planning to attend a four-year degree program, and pays out two awards each of $60,000, $40,000 and $20,000, as well as 494 awards for $4000. Selection is based on employment and community service, honors and awards, a 350 word essay, a parent financial statement, high school grades and SAT/ACT scores and two letters of recommendation. The completed application packet must be received by our local Elks lodge by December 5th.

Elks National Foundation Legacy Award

This program awards up to 250 four-year, $4000 scholarships to the children and grandchildren of active Elks members who are high school seniors, going to college and exhibit the values of the Elks National Foundation: Knowledge, Charity, Community and Integrity. Due date: January 30th.

Fulton County Soroptimist Youth Citizenship Award

This award is for boys and girls who are in their junior or senior year of high school. It recognizes young people for their outstanding contributions to home, school, community, country and the world. They are not awarded for scholastic achievement, but rather for the applicant’s demonstrated commitment to improve the quality of life for others. Applications
require two recommendations and must be submitted by December 1st.

Soroptimist’s Violet Richardson Award

This award was created to recognize girls for their volunteer service to their communities. The program honors young women between the ages of 14 and 17 whose volunteer efforts include helping other disadvantaged girls; fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty. Fulton County presents a $500 award locally, $250 to the young woman recipient and $250 to the group to which she is
connected for her volunteer work. Application deadline is December 1st and is available in the guidance office.

New York State World Trade Center Memorial Scholarships

This scholarship is sponsored by the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation for survivors, their children, spouses and financial dependents of deceased or severely and permanently disabled victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States or the  subsequent rescue and recovery operations. This includes victims at the World Trade Center site, Pentagon or on flights 11, 77, 93, or 175. The award covers up to four years of full-time undergraduate study (an amount equal to the SUNY four-year college tuition, fees, room and board, books and supplies cost). Completed applications must be submitted by May 1st.

Dorothea Deitz Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is sponsored by women in physical education in New York State to provide financial assistance to selected women students planning to major in Physical Education Teacher Education. The amount of these scholarships varies from year to year. The award is based on character, academic achievement, physical education competence, participation in athletics, qualities of leadership and financial need. Requests for applications should be made through an area chairperson (see guidance counselor for details) and must be returned by March 1st.

Burger King Scholars

Scholarship grants range from $1,000 to $50,000 and are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college or post-secondary vocational/technical school. Recipients are selected based on their grade point average (GPA), work experience, extracurricular activities and community service. Application deadline is December 15th.

Miss Fulton County Scholarships

Fulton County gives away over $7000 every year to senior girls in the Miss Fulton County Pageant. Develop your public speaking skills while highlighting your personal talents. Applications are available on the website: www.angelfire.com/ny4/missfultoncountyorg

NYS Assoc. of Agricultural Fairs Scholarship

Five $1000 scholarships will be awarded annually to students who intend to pursue higher education in agriculture or an agricultural-related field. The application must be submitted to a member fair of the New York State Association of Agricultural Fairs, Inc. Completed applications must be submitted to the Member Fair by April 8th.

American Society of Military Comptrollers Scholarship

Nationally one scholarships for $3000, four $2000 and 4 $1000 prizes will be awarded. Available also are two local scholarship of $250 for high school seniors entering a fields of Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Operations Research (related to Financial Management), and/or Computer Science. Selection is based on academics, three letters of recommendation and a justification statement of need. Completed applications must be submitted to the sponsoring organization by February 29th.

Tri-County Counselors’ Association Scholarship

A $500 scholarship awarded to several students from Fulton, Montgomery or Hamilton county high schools that are planning to further their education at a two-year, four-year or trade school. Selection is based on academic achievement, school and community involvement and a personal
essay. The application deadline is June 8th.

Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Employee Alliance Scholarship

This scholarship is for students who are pursuing a degree in criminal justice (whose parent is not a member of the alliance) and also for graduating seniors who are the children of members of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office Employee Alliance. Selection is based on school involvement and career goals and interests. The application does involve two letters of recommendation. Completed applications must be received by the sponsoring organization by
May 8th.

Sammy Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year Award

A $7500 college scholarship is available to outstanding scholar athletes, judged on five criteria: academic performance (35%), athletic excellence (35%), leadership (15%), community service (10%), and milk experience (5%). Applications will only be accepted on-line only by March 4th.

New York Water Environment Association Capital Chapter R. Paul Farrell, Jr. Scholarship

Two $500 awards to students from the capital district enrolled in an environmental-related college curriculum (such as, biology, forestry, chemistry, engineering and water/waste management). Selection is based on academics, extra-curricular and community activities, two recommendations and personal goals. Completed applications must be submitted to the
sponsoring organization by April 1st.

Fulton County Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

Five one-time scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded to high school seniors from a Fulton County high school. Applicants must be attending a two or four year college pursuing a career in commerce, industry or related field. The deadline is April 17th.

American Association University of Women – Dorothy Wemple Literary Award

A local senior girl can win a first prize of $300. A specific essay topic pertaining to women is given each year. Entry form and essay must be completed by April 22nd.

Fulton County Zonta Award – Jean Cooper Humanitarian Award

A savings bond is awarded to a senior for their volunteer experience. The deadline is March 8th.

Allen Brown Scholarship

This award, sponsored by the Mayfield Teachers Association, is a renewable $700 per year scholarship awarded to a Mayfield student planning to attend college. Selection is based on academics, school and community involvement and, to a certain extent, financial need. The deadline is May 15th.

Byron S. Child Educational Trust Fund Scholarship

This is a $500 award for a college bound senior from Fulton County. Selection is based on financial need, combined with an evaluation of scholastic achievement and extracurricular involvement. The deadline is May 8th.

Conrad and Anna Gillen Scholarship

A $500 per year award given to a student furthering their education at a four-year college. Selection is based on a student having demonstrated scholastic capability and potential, high moral character, and financial need. The deadline is May 15th.

Regents Professional Opportunity Scholarships

Sponsored by the New York State Education Dept this award, up to $5000 per year, can be awarded to historically underrepresented minority and/or economically disadvantaged students planning a career in various professional careers (e.g. health fields, nursing, architecture, engineering, etc.). A Bulletin of Information for Candidates includes the application form and directions and is available through State Ed HEOP Dept.

Glove Cities Rotary Kurt Kaiser Scholarship

The Glove Cities Rotary Club will award approximately $600 to a student pursuing a career in a health related field of study. The deadline is May 15th.

Golub Foundation Scholarships

The Golub Foundation, the parent company of Price Chopper, offers ten different scholarships for graduating high school students. The different scholarships are for varying qualification such as, demonstrated leadership, community service by minority students, pursuit of a career in education, being a Price Chopper Associate or a child/grand-child of one, pursuit of a two-year education, pursuit of a career in health care, or computers, or hospitality/tourism/culinary arts. Complete application information available in the guidance office. Application deadline is June 1st.

Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarship

A $500 award is available for a senior planning to enter the field of education. Scholarship committee will judge entrants based on application, transcript, letter of recommendation and essay. Deadline April 1st.

Todd Rudolph Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will go to a college bound Mayfield senior with emphasis on school involvement, leadership and ability in foreign language. The deadline is May 24th.

National Honor Society Scholarships

Mayfield NHS chapter can nominate two of its members to compete in this state and national competitions. Applications are available through the NHS advisor. The deadline is around January 15th.

Fulton County Traffic Safety/Stop DWI Scholarship

An award of $500.00 per year (maximum of four years) is available to students planning a career that would promote traffic safety through the prevention and rehabilitation of DWI offenders (i.e. law enforcement, probation, prosecution, public education, rehabilitation). The deadline is May
8th.

School’s Out Scramble Golfer Scholar Athlete Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a local senior who has competed on golf at the varsity level and has excelled academically. The application deadline is May 11th.

Coca Cola Scholars Program

This is a national competition based on leadership, character, academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. The award can be from $4000 – 20,000. Applications are only available on-line at www.coca-colascholars.org. Scholarship descriptions and specific details are available
in the guidance office. The deadline is October 31st.

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

Any student in grades 5-12 who has engaged in a volunteer activity that occurred over the past year can apply. Local honorees receive a certificate of achievement, runners-up at the state level receive an engraved bronze medallion, state winners receive $1000 and national winners receive
$5000. Applications need to be submitted to the guidance office by November 1st.

Schering Asthma Athlete Award

A one time national grant of $1000 – 3500 can be awarded to a college bound senior with asthma who has achieved both excellence in sports and academics. Other criteria are leadership qualities and notable extracurricular activities and accomplishments. The deadline is March 31st.

Fulmont Road Runner Scholarship-James R. Dern Memorial Scholarship

This award of $500 will be awarded to two students in Fulton and Montgomery Counties. Seniors must have competed for two years in cross country running and/or track as a distance runner. Applicants will be judged on the following personal qualities – work ethic, leadership skills, sportsmanship and personal discipline, commitment and Respect. The application
deadline is May 20th.

Fulton County CSEA Local 818 Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to graduating seniors whose parent is a member of the Fulton County Local 818 CSEA and who will be continuing his/her education. Scholarships will be awarded based on school involvement, career goals, interests and financial need. The application deadline is April 1st.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

This competitive scholarship is federally funded and is based on the high school senior’s SAT scores and grades. Each scholarship carries an award of $1500 and is renewable up to four years. The school counselor will let you know if you are eligible and will provide you with the application. The deadline is March 3rd.

School Administrators of New York State Scholarship

Sponsored by the school administrators of NYS Region 6, this award of $500 is for a graduating senior from the Region 6 area, and is based on scholarship, citizenship and leadership. One student will be selected from Mayfield School to compete for this scholarship. Applications must be returned to the guidance office by this Friday, April 28th.

Fulton County Highway Official’s Association Scholarship

This Association is providing a $500 scholarship to a qualified senior high school student who has been accepted by an accredited college in the field of engineering. The award is based on need, academic achievement, and participation in student activities. The application deadline is May 1st.

Jenkins Memorial PTA Scholarship

This scholarship of $3000 is paid over four years and is available to students accepted into a New York State university and planning a career in teaching. The criteria based on character, personality, academic achievement and potential teaching ability. The application deadline is December 15th.

Sam Walton Community Leader Award Scholarship

$1000 is available to students in the Wal-Mart store’s trading area. This award is based on high academic and scholastic achievement, active extracurricular involvement and a financial need. Wal-Mart associates and children of associates are ineligible. Application must be filled out on line and the deadline is January 12th. Web site and instructions are available in the guidance

Lisa Queeney Scholarship (FMCC)

A two-year $500 ($1000 total) scholarship is offered to a senior entering FMCC on a full time basis. The scholarship will be awarded to a well-rounded student who participates in at least two extra curricular activities which include (but are not limited to): art exhibition, athletics, band, choir, community volunteer work through an organized religious or service club or youth corps,
drama, employment, 4-H, Honor Society, school newspaper, scouting, student government, supervised peer tutoring, yearbook. Financial need may be considered. The deadline is May 15th.

New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence

Sponsored by the NYS Education Dept., $500 – $1500 will be awarded to at least one senior from each New York State Public High School. This scholarship is based on weighted Regents exam scores. Your school counselor will notify you if you meet the criteria. The deadline is December 20th.

Capital District Counseling Association Scholarship

There are four one-time $1000 scholarships for students attending college in the Capitol Region. Application deadline is May 1.

Disabled American Veterans Scholarship

A $500 scholarship is available to the spouse, child or grandchild of an honorably discharged, wartime, disabled veteran. Basis for the award is a combination of the applicant’s relationship to the veteran, academic achievement, SAT/ACT score, school and community service and letters
of recommendation. Application deadline is April 15th.

Lawrence Madeiros Memorial Scholarship

A $500 award is available to college bound seniors diagnosed with a bleeding disorder or other chronic disorder. Applications are due by May 1st.

Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York/Lyle Ruben Fisher Memorial Scholarship

Three $1000 awards are available to a student currently being treated for epilepsy and planning to further their education. Application deadline is May 20th.

Fulton County Firefighters Association – Robert Winchell Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student whose parent or grandparent is an active Fulton county firefighter. Application deadline is May 20th.

Fulton County OTB Scholarship

This is an essay contest within the boundaries of Fulton County. The top three winners will be awarded $600, $400 and $300 accordingly. Application deadline is May 15th.

Miss America Scholarships

Various awards are available to graduating senior girls interested in competing in the Miss Fulton County Scholarship Program. The program’s goal is to provide scholarships to talented and intelligent women to continue their education.

Calvin Shaad Memorial Scholarship

A one-time award of $500, in memory of Calvin Shaad, a former Tech teacher in Mayfield, is available to a positive student pursuing a career in education. The deadline is May 15th.

Price Chopper Associate Scholarship

This scholarship is available to high students who are Price Chopper associates. Applicants can be planning to attend school full or part time and must continue their employment as a part-time associate to be eligible. Deadline is June 1st.

Principal’s Leadership Award (NASSP) and Herff Jones, Inc.

One senior per school will be nominated for this award. Nominees should be in the top 20% of their class and have demonstrated leadership. School nominees are forwarded to a national selection committee. Monetary awards are only given out at the national level. The application deadline is November 14th.

Women’s Republican Club of Fulton County

This award is available to any graduating senior who has demonstrated an active interest in government and/or local community governance. Selection is usually made by mid-May.

SAE Engineering Scholarships

$1000 – $6000 is available to seniors planning to pursue a career in engineering or a related field. The applicant must meet minimum requirements with regard to GPA, SAT/ACT scores, as outlined in the individual requirements of each scholarship. The deadline is December 1.

Ned Carter Scholarship

3 – $1000 scholarships will be awarded to New York State high school seniors who are related to a firefighter in an affiliated member organization of the Association of Fire Districts of New  York State. Applicants need to be pursuing a post-secondary career in a community service related area (e.g. fire service, nursing, social work, health related services, teaching, library science, etc.) at a two or four year college. The application is available on-line at
www.firedistnys.com or in the guidance office. Completed applications need to be submitted to the sponsoring organization by March 2nd.

First Choice Financial Federal Credit Union Scholarship

Student members of the first Choice Financial Federal Credit Union will be competing with high schools across the state for the chance to win one of five $1000 scholarships. Qualifying students must be members of a participating credit union and a college-bound senior at the time of application. Applicants will be judged on academic performance, extracurricular and community
activities, quality of written essay, and a teacher’s reference. Applications must be submitted to the credit union by April 24th.

Experimental Aircraft Association Local Chapter 602 Scholarship

A $500 award to an individual interested in pursuing a career in aviation. Qualifying careers include aerospace engineering, aircraft mechanic, as well as, commercial or military pilot training programs. Qualifications include at least a B average, an essay describing why they desire an aviation career and a list of their accomplishments associated with aviation. Completed applications need to be submitted to the sponsoring organization by June 30th.

Fulmont Community Action Scholarship

The Advisory Council of the Fulmont Community Action Agency of Northville will award two $250 scholarships to selected students in the Northville and Mayfield Central School Districts. The scholarship will be based on the high school transcript, two letters of recommendation and demonstrated financial need. Completed application packets must be submitted to the sponsoring organization by June 1st.

Mayfield Servicemen’s Club Scholarship

There is a $500 scholarship given to Mayfield college-bound senior by the Mayfield Servicemen’s Club. Selection is based on career goals, academic achievement, school and community activities, short essay responses and financial need. Completed applications need to be in to the guidance office by May22nd.

Mayfield Grange Agricultural Scholarship

The Mayfield Grange sponsors a $100 scholarship to a graduating senior from Mayfield High School who will pursue an education in agriculture and has been accepted at a college. Selection is based on two references and a short essay about why they chose a career in agriculture. Completed applications are at the guidance office by June 1.

Kaplan/Newsweek “My Turn” Essay Competition

Participants submit a 500 -1000-word original essay on a topic of the student’s choice, where the student shares his or her opinion, experience or personal feeling. First prize is $5000 for college, second prize is $2000. Eight students will receive $1000. Submission deadline is March 1st. Submissions should be mailed to: Community Outreach Director at Kaplan, Inc. 888 Seventh Ave., New York, NY 10106. Voice of Democracy Essay Contest

This scholarship contest is open to 9th– 12th graders and is sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). This year’s them is “My Commitment to
America’s Future.” Student entries must be received by November 1st

AXA Achievement Scholarship

This national scholarship offers two awards $10,000 to 52 students (one in each state, Washington D.C., and Alaska) and additional $15,000 scholarships to 10 national recipients. The national winners will also be offered internships in AXA offices and a computer for college. Application deadline is December 1st. AXA Achievement Community Scholarship

This AXA scholarship awards 375 recipients nationwide scholarships of $2500. Please visit the AXA website (www.axaachievement.com) for complete criteria and application information. Deadline February 1st.

National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Scholarship Program

The John Gannon Memorial Scholarship will award $40,000 to a high school senior who has demonstrated exceptional talent as a creator of video programming as well as outstanding academic achievement. To apply applicants must be seeking a career in the communications
field. Application deadline is November 5th.

National Alliance for Scholastic Achievement

This national award has five prizes, first award $15,000- second award $10,000- third award $5,000- fourth award $3,000- fifth award $2,000 available to high school seniors planning to attend 4 year college. The application period is from October – March.

America’s National Teenager Scholarship Foundation

Participation in America’s National Teenager allows outstanding young women from across the nation to be recognized for their superior commitment to excellence in learning and character, thus rewarding their past accomplishments with scholarships for their advanced education. Scholarship awards are based on scholastic achievement, leadership, community involvement and individuality. Female students between 12 and 18 (by April 4, 2004) are eligible. American Society of Civil Engineers (Mohawk-Hudson Section) Scholarship

This $4000 scholarship is available to graduating seniors majoring in a curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. Only one winner will be chosen for this one year non-renewable award. Application, essay, and GPA Transcript are due by April 20th.

Tri-County Council Vietnam Era Veterans Scholarship

Scholarship(s) in the amount of one thousand dollars will be awarded to the children and grandchildren of Veterans of All conflicts. You are eligible to apply if you are a child or grandchild of a veteran of any conflict or era who served in active duty status or was a member of a National Guard or reserve unit, and is either serving in that capacity or was discharged honorably. Applicants must complete an essay and be planning to attend a post secondary school. Application deadline is April 15th.

The Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Award

This award was established to encourage young women to enter careers or seek leadership positions in social policy-making, government, and volunteer organizations. The winner of this local award will be granted a cash prize of $100.00, in addition will be eligible on our District level for a prize of $500.00. District level winners are then eligible on an International level for a prize of $1000.00. Applications must be returned to the club by March 26th.

Educational Communications Scholarship Foundation

There are four different scholarships available for high school graduates. Founders Scholarship Award-one $6000.00 will be awarded. Chairman’s Scholarship Award-ten students will be awarded $5000.00 each. Outstanding Achievement Award-twenty students will be awarded $2500.00 each. Academic Scholarship Awards-96 students will be awarded $1000.00 each.
Application deadline is May 15th.

William J. Houtz Scholarship

This scholarship is available to two graduating seniors in Fulton or Montgomery Counties looking to continue their education in the field of math, science or technology. The award amount is $1000 each. Application Must be mailed by May 15th.

Amy Bindelglass Memorial Scholarship

Applicants for this scholarship are required to write a short essay on the importance of organ donation. Awards of $500 and $200 scholarships will be given. High school seniors and juniors are eligible to participate. Information in guidance office, submissions are due by May 1st.

Broadalbin-Perth Lions Community Service Award

This award will go to a graduating senior who can demonstrate significant community service of the past 4 years. Applicants do not have to be planning to attend college to be eligible for this award. Information is available in the guidance office. Deadline is May 23rd.

Ruth Goldstein Memorial Music Scholarship

This is a $300 award available to a graduating senior of a capital region high school. To be eligible you need to be continuing education in musical studies, preferably the woodwind family or piano, be able to demonstrate academic achievement, financial need and be accepted into either a two or four year college or university. Deadline is March 5th.

Gene Robb Journalism Scholarship

This $1000 scholarship is available to a graduating senior in the capital district that is planning to attend a 4-year college. The student must be studying journalism and provide samples of journalistic work. Scholastic achievement will be strongly considered as well as community service and social involvement. Personal recommendations are required. Deadline is March 5th.

Down Syndrome/AIM High Scholarship

$2000 is available to a graduating senior planning to attend a 2 or 4 year college, university or trade school. Applicants should be a student focusing their education in a career in special education, speech, occupational or physical therapy. Deadline is April 29th.

The Ad Club of Albany Scholarship Fund

The Ad Club will award a $3000 scholarship to a communications student attending a 4-year college or university. Student must be attending college in the Capitol District and majoring in the communications field. For all details and application see the guidance office. Deadline 3/5.

Capital District of Superintendent’s of School Buildings and Grounds Scholarship Fund

This scholarship will award $1000 to an immediate family member or student in the district of a member of this association. Information is available in the guidance office. Application due around March 30th.

Steven & Scott Nicholson Memorial Scholarship

This annual scholarship is awarded to the son or daughter of school transportation department personnel working in New York State whose employer is a member paying dues to the Capital Area Chapter of the Head Mechanics’ Association and a member of the CASDA. Application is
due around June 10th.

Academic Finance Corporation – $50K Giveaway Scholarship Sweepstakes

AFC will award two scholarships in the amount of $5000 each and 16 $2500 scholarships to first-year students attending an accredited college or trade school in the fall of 2007. There is no essay requirement and eligibility is not based on GPA, area of study or financial need. This one is pure luck! You must apply on line and entries will be accepted until May 31st. Complete

The Better Business Bureau-“Edward A. Schmidt Student of Integrity Scholarship”

This scholarship recognizes a college bound student in their senior year of high school that exemplifies the bureau’s standards of ethics and integrity. Winners will be selected based on academic excellence, community involvement, leadership abilities, ethical behavior, and the essay. Each school can select only one student to compete at state level. More information and
applications are available in the guidance office. Applications are due in the guidance office on June 6th.

AT&T and Better Business Bureau Science & Technology Scholarship

This award is available to students in the Upstate NY service territory that have committed to pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in the fields of technology and or science. Applicants will be evaluated on their academic achievement, involvement in the community and letter of recommendation as well as on the merits of an essay in which they describe what influences have
inspired their interests in pursuing a career in technology and or science. Full details available in the guidance office. Application deadline is January 16th.

Beryl Spector Scholarship

This scholarship offers $1000 to assist a graduating high school senior in paying for college. The scholarship is for students who will be attending a two or four year college or university in New York State. Students must be pursuing a communications-related field of study and demonstrate academic achievement, leadership skills and financial need. Application and
information are in the guidance office-deadline is March 16th.

Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society for Women Educators

This is a $500 award for a senior planning to enter the field of education. Judging is based on the following criteria, high transcript, recommendation and essay of career goals. Application and information is in the guidance office and the deadline is May 15th.

Key Bank Take Five Scholarship

You can register to win one of five monthly awards of $5000 at Key.com. Each month from February thru June Key Bank draws one lucky students name to win $5000 towards college expenses. There is no essay to write and it is open to all students planning to attend college. Details are in the guidance office.

Martha Ross Small Memorial Scholarship

This $2000 award will be given to a college bound student in Fulton County. A successful candidate will show an enthusiastic interest in theater arts and dedication to the craft. They will also carry at least a 3.0 GPA, demonstrate involvement in a place of worship, and demonstrate involvement in school and community. Complete information is in the guidance office, application deadline is March 31st.

Mayfield Sports Booster Club Scholarship

The booster club will annually present a graduating senior with a monetary award. Awards will be given in recognition for outstanding contributions to the Mayfield community and participation in the Mayfield sports program. Applicants must be a member of the Booster Club. Criteria and applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline May 24th.

Sally Whittle Scholarship For Musical Excellence

This $750 scholarship is awarded annually to a music student who is currently a senior in high school, in good academic standing, and planning to pursue a career in instrumental music performance and/or education by attending a certified music program at a college or university. Complete information and applications are in the guidance office. Deadline is May 15th.

KFC® Colonel’s Scholars Program

The KFC Colonel’s scholars Program is dedicated to assisting high school seniors with financial need who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at a public institution within their legal state of residence. This award could mean up to $5000 per year for college expenses. Students need to apply on line, for complete information stop in the guidance office. The application deadline is
February 9th.

Phi Delta Kappa Future Educator Scholarship

This scholarship is available to high school seniors intending to major in education. Selection will be based on an essay, references and academic ability. Applications are available in the guidance office and are due by March 1st.

NYWEA Major Scholarship Award

This is a four year scholarship worth a total of $10,000. Applicants must be a senior enrolling in a BS or BE full time program with a focus on environmental issues. Applications are due by February 17th and are available in the guidance office.

The Fulton County Historical Society Scholarship

The Historical Society will award $500 to a graduate of one of the six high schools in Fulton County. The decision will be based on the applicants essay, academic achievement, community involvement, economic need and references. Application deadline is May 9th.

Lyle Reuben Fieser Scholarship –Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York

The Epilepsy Foundation of Northeastern New York, Inc. is offering three $1000.00 college scholarships to graduating seniors who will be enrolled at any post high school institution of higher learning. To be considered for these scholarships the individual must be a student who is currently being treated for epilepsy and have plans to further their education. Documentation and
application must be submitted.

Roberta M. Knapp Testamentary Trust Scholarship

The Knapp trust is set up for graduating seniors from Fulton County only. Students must be enrolled in a post-secondary school in a veterinary related field. (Veterinary Science Technology, Veterinary Technology Management or a related field degree program at the undergraduate or graduate level.) Application deadline is May 15th.

Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club – Bill Schrader, Sr Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship has been established in the memory of Bill Schrader, an outstanding life-long runner and one of the founding members of the Hudson Mohawk Road Runners Club. The purpose of the program is to encourage and support young runners in their efforts to make running a lifelong part of a healthy life style. On an annual basis, four $2,500 non-renewable scholarships will be awarded to two male and two female runners planning to attend a college, university or community college on a full-time basis. The awards will be limited to track or cross-country runners currently attending a Section II high school or community college. Application deadline is April 1st.

Hudson Mohawk AHEC

The Hudson Mohawk Area Health Education Center will be awarding $250 scholarships to graduating high school seniors entering a health care related program. Winners will be chosen at random. Application deadline is April 30th.

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE)

This is the third annual “Freedom in Academia” high school student essay contest. This is an excellent opportunity for seniors to practice, develop, and hone their writing and research skills. FIRE will award $12,500 in college scholarships, including $5000 to the student with the best essay. Essay information is in the guidance office, deadline is November 1st.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program

Buick will award 100 National Scholarships of up to $25,000 and 1000 scholarships of $2000 available for up to four years to graduating high school seniors. Applicants must be pursuing a four year degree that focuses on STEM (science, technology, engineering or math). Select design, marketing, accounting, finance and business majors are also eligible. Scholarship
recipient will demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries using these areas of study. Applications must be submitted on line no later than February 29th. Information for applying is available in the guidance office.

Merck Respiratory – Will to Win Scholarship

Merck Respiratory will sponsor the Will to Win Scholarship Program for high school seniors with asthma who are pursuing higher education. This nationwide scholarship recognizes high school seniors who are outstanding, disciplined, determined and successful in managing their asthma. The program serves to demonstrate to young people with asthma that the condition, when properly treated and managed, need not impede their ability to excel. Scholarships of $5000 will be awarded to two deserving high School seniors in each of the following five categories: Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Community Service, Athletics and Science. Complete

Elizabeth Cady Stanton Hometown Association

This essay contest will award a $200 student scholarship to a graduating senior who is loaning to further their education by attending a two or four year-college, university, technical or certificate program. Application and essay due May 4th.

CNE Manufacturing Scholarship

The Chief Executives Network for Manufacturing of the Capital Region wants to encourage students to consider careers in manufacturing and is making available $1000 scholarships to be awarded to applicants. Students need to be enrolled in a two or four year college, university or trade school and planning a career in a field which can lead to qualifying for a position with a
manufacturer. Applications must be submitted by March 30th.

Dr. Geoffery H. Davis Memorial Award

This award is available to students successfully completing their final year in a Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES-sponsored program. Criteria for selection are community service, extracurricular activities, academic honors, contributions you have made to others, and the role music has played in your life. Application due date is May 31.

Community Physical Therapy & Wellness Center Scholarship

The Community Physical Therapy and Wellness Center is pleased to offer a high school senior, of our choice, a one time $900.00 scholarship. Applicants must be set to graduate in June, entering into an accredited Physical Therapy program and write a 500 word essay. Application due date is May 13th.

Sara B. Close Memorial Scholarship

The close family is pleased to present a $500 scholarship to a deserving Mayfield graduate. Through her many years as a Mayfield employee, Sara Close touched numerous lives and had a special place in her heart for students who worked hard no matter what their circumstance might be. All academically sound graduating seniors may apply and must exhibit dependability, work ethic, and prove to be a good role model. Application deadline is June 10th.

Stephen J. Brady STOP Hunger Scholarship

This program of the Sodexo Foundation recognizes and rewards students who have made a significant impact in the fight against hunger in America. Recipients will receive $5000 for their education as well as a matching grant in their name for the hunger-related charity of their choice. Applicants must have demonstrated an on-going commitment to their community by performing unpaid volunteer services impacting hunger in the United States at least within the last 12 months. Application deadline December 5th.

GE-Ronald Reagan Foundation Scholarship

Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education. The New York State Society of Professional Engineers’ Scholarship

The New York State Society of Professional Engineers’ Capital District Chapter is offering awards of $1000 to $3000 to high school seniors in the Capital District who intend to study engineering. Application information is available in the guidance office, deadline is March 20th.

SEFCU Scholarships

The State Employee Federal Credit Union has a number of scholarships available to its members in the capital region. SEFCU members who are seniors in high school and planning to attend an accredited two or four-year college are eligible. All applications are due by January 20, information for the following scholarships is available in the guidance office:

Habitat for Humanity Scholarship

Habitat for Humanity is a faith-based organization dedicated to the elimination of substandard housing by providing decent, affordable homes to Fulton County families in need. This Habitat scholarship of $250 is for a graduating senior who has shown commitment and dedication to furthering Habitat’s cause. Application available in the guidance office, deadline March 31st.

Visine Students With Vision Scholarship

The Visine Students with Vision Scholarship Program will grant $5000 merit scholarships to graduating seniors who demonstrate a clear and unique vision, strong ambition and determination to bring their dream to life. In addition to academics, leadership in community service and extracurricular activities, applicants’ personal stories of how they are moving toward their goal will be considered. On line applications will be accepted thru March 1st.

The Joshua Dunning Powell Scholarship Fund

With the recognition that LGBT youth often face challenges in their high school years, local philanthropist Joshua Dunning Powell has established an awards competition that will offer at least four scholarships of up to $2500 to graduating high school seniors who have been accepted at two or four year accredited colleges or universities. Application deadline April 13th, complete
information in the guidance office.

Judge Hood Scholarship

The purpose of this $250 award is to encourage future student participation in and study of United States government at the local, state and national level. Graduating seniors of Fulton County that have shown potential in understanding American democracy and successfully completed the participation in government class are encouraged to apply. Application deadline is May 20th.

Mayfield Senior Drama Award

The Mayfield Drama Club is offering an award to graduating seniors that participated in drama. There is an application and essay required and the deadline is June 1st. Please stop in the guidance office to get the application

Horatio Alger Scholarship

The Horatio Alger Scholarship program provides financial assistance to students throughout the nation who have financial need and have exhibited integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity. Applicants need to show a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited institution, show critical financial need, be involved in co-curricular and community service activities and carry a minimum GPA of 2.0. Application deadline is October 25, stop in the guidance office for complete information.

William Morehouse Scholarship

The William Morehouse Scholarship Program awards money to qualified students who are pursuing a one, two or four-year college program in construction or related fields in New York State. Application deadline is February 8th.

Mayfield United Methodist Church Scholarship Award

The Mayfield United Methodist Church is offering two scholarships to graduating Mayfield seniors accepted into a two or four college. One scholarship will go to a member of the Mayfield United Methodist Church and one to a non-member of the church. Applicants must exhibit involvement in church, school and community activities, demonstrate good citizenship and
exhibit experience acting as a good role model for others. Applications available in the guidance office the deadline is May 15th.

Mental Health Association in Fulton & Montgomery Counties Scholarship

Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to full time high school seniors in Fulton or Montgomery counties. Student must be planning to major in a mental health-related field. Application deadline is April 15th.

Zonta Education Award

The Zonta Club of Montgomery-Fulton County is initiating an award available for girls in their senior year and continuing on to a post-secondary education. This $250 award can be used at any accredited university or college. Applicants must have a B+ or better GPA and demonstrate initiative, ambition and commitment to pursuing higher education. Application deadline is 4/1.

Phi Beta Kappa Scholarship

The Upper Hudon Association of Phi Beta Kappa will award 2 – $750 awards to graduating seniors planning to pursue a post-secondary education in the fall. Applicants must have at least a 90 GPA and be in the top 10% of their class. Details are in the guidance office, application deadline is March 8th.

Gerald J. Buckenmeyer FASNY Volunteer Scholarship

The FASNY will award 15 – $1500 awards across NY State. This award is available to students actively involved in volunteer fire or emergency services and planning to attend college this fall after graduation. Stop in the guidance office for details, application deadline is March 15th.

Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church Niles Scholarship Award

The Mayfield Central Presbyterian Church will offer two (2) $500 individual awards to a deserving senior graduating from high school and/or an adult learner looking for further their education. Applicants must be involved in religious, school and community activities. Applicants must also be accepted into a two or four year college or trade school. Details are available in the guidance office, the deadline is April 15th.

Pride Center Youth Scholarship

The Pride Center’s Youth Scholarship is intended to help Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender students and their allies who exemplify leadership, academic achievement and commitment to LGBT equality. Four graduating seniors will be awarded $2500 based on the  following criteria: academic record, commitment to the LGBTQ community as demonstrated by
past activity and future ambitions, financial need and the quality and content of the personal statement. Application deadline is May 4th.

NY Penn League Charitable Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship competition is for graduating seniors form each of the league’s 14 markets. The Tri-City Valley Cats will select one student to receive a $250 award and advance to the second stage and a chance to win $2500. Applicants must plan on attending any 2-4 year college or university, vocational or technical education institution or program. Awards are judged on
several criteria, including academic performance, leadership, community service, extracurricular activities and the impact their local NYPL franchise has had on his/her life. Application deadline is June 27th, complete details are available in the guidance office.

Rockwell Scholarship Award

The Junior League of Albany is a volunteer organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Recipients of this $1000 award need to be a female resident of the Capital District and a high school senior slated for graduation this June,
currently involved in volunteer organizations or activities which serve the same or related focus areas as the Junior League of Albany’s focus areas; and be able to demonstrate citizenship and initiative. Applications are due March 31st, stop in the guidance office for more information.

Baptist Health System Foundation – Alfred Kahler Scholarship

This $2500 scholarship will be awarded to a college bound senior looking to further their education in a health-care related human services field. Such fields include licensed or registered nursing, medicine, physical therapy, technical support, social work and medical administration. Applicants will be evaluated on educational goals, academic performance, school/community involvement and an essay. Application deadline is April 6th, stop in the
guidance office for an application.

AAA Northway Scholarship

AAA Northway established a scholarship to support students in its territory who are pursuing a travel-related or automotive services related degrees. Students must be accepted to and planning to attend on a full time basis with a major in either travel, tourism, hospitality or automotive services: SUNY Plattsburgh, SUNY Adirondack, FMCC or Schenectady Community College.
Vocational aspirations, writing quality, previous work/volunteer activities, and educational proficiency will be considered in awarding the scholarship. The deadline is April 15th.

Douglas W. Edwards Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship fund has been set up in memory of Douglas W. Edwards, the former Gloversville Fire Chief. This scholarship was set up to assist any Mayfield High School senior interested in pursuing a career in a fire related field. Selection will be based on community/school involvement, demonstrated leadership, recommendations and an essay. Application is due May 31st.

NYS STEM Incentive Program

The New York STEM Incentive Program provides a full SUNY tuition scholarship to the top 10% of students in each NYS high school if they pursue a STEM degree in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program and agree to live in NYS and work in a STEM field in NYS for five years after graduation. Application are available on line in January at www.hesc.ny.gov . Stop in

Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association (AFCEA) Erie Canal Chapter & SRC/SRCT Scholarship Program

The Erie Canal Chapter Scholarships are awarded to assist deserving students in furthering their educational objectives. Their program of study must lead to a degree in any one of the various disciplines or specializations in Science, Technologies, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The Chapter will award scholarships for full-time undergraduate or graduate study with individual awards from $500 to $3000. Scholarships will be awarded to both college students and high school seniors. Awards are based upon the program of study, demonstrated academic performance, potential, honors, community service, work history, and extracurricular activities.
