Former Mayfield Superintendent of Schools Paul G. Williamsen has been named as the interim Mayfield Elementary principal beginning on Dec. 11.
He is replacing Nick Criscone, who was principal at Mayfield for 12 years. Criscone has accepted a position at the Scotia-Glenville School District.
Superintendent Jon Peterson said Williamsen would remain in the interim position until June 30. The Board of Education, which appointed Williamsen unanimously to the interim post on Nov. 21, will conduct a search for a new principal in the spring.
“We are very pleased to have someone of Mr. Williamsen’s experience and character able to serve in this important position for us,” said Peterson. “As a former superintendent at Mayfield, he is certainly familiar with the school district. We are confident that he will be a positive force at the school and will be welcomed by students and staff alike.”
Williamsen served as Mayfield’s superintendent for five years (2008-13) before retiring in June 2013. He was also recently the interim principal at the Kingsborough Elementary School in Gloversville in the 2015-16 school year.
Williamsen and Criscone were both recognized with School Library System Administrator of the Year Awards in 2010 through the HFM BOCES. Williamsen was also recognized with the same award in 1996 when he was serving as a middle school principal at Broadalbin-Perth.
In addition to serving as superintendent in Mayfield, during his 35-year career in education, Williamsen also served as superintendent in Wells and Piseco. He also held principal positions in Scotia-Glenville and East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
