Mayfield Central School District welcomes Alyssa Nellis as the new Assistant Principal of the Jr/Sr High School. Ms. Nellis has worked for over seven years as a health and physical education teacher at Greenwich Junior-Senior High School teaching grades 7-12. She has coached a variety of sports including soccer, volleyball and basketball, and is an official for both basketball and soccer.
Ms. Nellis is passionate about helping students achieve their dreams and encouraging them to challenge themselves when things get tough. She believes each and every student can be successful if given the opportunity. Her favorite part of being an educator is the connections made with people – students, staff, parents and the community.
“I’m excited to work in such a small, tight-knit community like Mayfield. I grew up camping, swimming and fishing on the Great Sacandaga Lake and really love this area,” said Nellis. “I can’t wait to get to know the students and build positive relationships. Every day as an educator is an opportunity to learn from them as well.”
Ms. Nellis graduated from the Greater Johnstown School District in 2014. She attended Russell Sage College, earning both a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s degree in health education. She is currently finishing a School Building Leader Certification through SUNY Plattsburgh.
Ms. Nellis is a sports enthusiast and loves both watching and playing a variety of different sports. She knows her way around a volleyball and badminton court, and is a big fan of basketball and following March Madness. She also enjoys reading a good book and is a patron of the performing arts; her favorite musical is “Hamilton”. Ms. Nellis is excited to support Mayfield’s athletics and arts programs with her knowledge and enthusiasm.
We welcome Ms. Nellis to our school community.
