Running for the Board

Petitions to nominate candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education are available to qualified district residents and may be picked up at the District Office, 27 School Street, between the hours of 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 – 4 p.m.

Board members hold their positions for five-year terms.

In order to qualify to run for a seat on the Board of Education, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Citizen of the United States
  • At least 18 years old
  • Resident of the Mayfield Central School District for at least one (1) year before the vote.
  • You must live in the district.
  • You must not be a convicted felon or adjudged by a court to be mentally incompetent (Section 5-106 of Election Law 2012).

School board elections are held each year on the third Tuesday in May.

2026 Board of Education Election

One 5-year term on the Mayfield Central School District Board of Education is up for election this year. The 5-year seat, presently occupied by Jeremiah “Jake” VanEvery, will become vacant as of June 30, 2026.

The candidate that will appear on the ballot: Alison Martin

Alison Martin is seeking a first term on the Mayfield Central School District Board of Education.

Alison is a manufacturer sales representative at her family business, MDM Technical Sales, Inc. With a professional background in sales, marketing, and business management, she is looking to offer her experience in communication, strategic planning, budgeting, and problem solving to the board.

Alison is originally from the Syracuse area but has spent many summers at her family camp in Mayfield creating many lasting memories. She has called Mayfield home for the past 12 years, residing here with her husband, who is a lifelong Mayfield resident, and raising two children, a son who is in fifth grade, and a daughter who is in fourth grade. 

She has been a member of the PTA since 2020 and has served as PTA President since 2023. In her role, she works closely with students, teachers, staff, and families to support meaningful educational experiences. Through this work, she feels she has gained insight into the needs of our school community and become a valuable collaborator and advocate.

Alison states that she is running for a seat on the board of education because she is passionate about supporting and strengthening our schools to ensure every student can learn, grow and succeed. She would like the opportunity to be a thoughtful voice and help guide decisions that reflect the best interest of our entire school community.

Voting Information

Voter Eligibility

To be eligible to vote, residents must live in the school district for at least 30 days prior to the annual budget vote (typically held the third Tuesday of each May), be at least 18 years of age, and a citizen of the United States.

Voter Registration

Residents who are not already on the school register may register to vote at the District Office (8 am to 4 pm weekdays) prior to the date of the vote.

Residents may also register on the day of the vote in the lobby of the Jr/Sr High School gymnasium by showing a photo ID and proof of residence (example: current utility bill).

Voting Location

The school budget vote takes place from noon to 8 p.m. in the lobby of the Jr/Sr High School gymnasium, typically on the third Tuesday in May.

Absentee Ballot Information

Residents who will not be in the district on the day of the vote or are otherwise unable to vote in person may apply for an absentee ballot at the District Office.

  • If the absentee ballot is to be mailed to the voter, the application must be submitted at least seven days prior to the vote.
  • If the absentee ballot is to be picked up by the voter in person, applications will be accepted until the day before the vote.

Absentee ballots must be returned to the District Clerk no later than 5 pm on the day of the vote.
