Community to vote on proposed budget May 19

2026-27 Proposed budget: $23,945,751
2026-27 Proposed tax levy increase: 2.35%
2026-27 Proposed spending increase from previous years: $618,134

Residents of the Mayfield Central School District will go to the polls Tuesday, May 19, to vote on a proposed $23,945,751 school budget for the 2026-27 school year.

The proposed budget keeps the tax levy increase to 2.35%, which is within the state’s “tax cap.”

The MCSD Board of Education and leadership team have developed a spending plan that aligns with the needs of the school community. By expanding programs and services, strengthening student supports, and increasing hands-on learning, we are building a strong foundation for the ‘Pathway of a Panther’ – our comprehensive approach to student growth from early learning through graduation.

“We remain committed to our mission of empowering every student with valuable educational experiences that cultivate knowledge, skills, and character,” said Superintendent Christopher Clapper. “Our focus continues to be on student success.”

This year’s budget also represents an intentional shift towards proactively planning for the future by identifying and maximizing alternative revenue streams.

For the 2026-27 school year alternative funding will come from agriculture grants, vehicle maintenance and driver training agreements with neighboring districts, BOCES aid for college-credit courses, tuition from our expanding special education program, and reimbursements for therapeutic services and evaluations.

The Board of Education unanimously approved the proposed budget on Tuesday, April 14
