Local students, educators, businesses, and community leaders were recognized by the Broadalbin-Perth Lions Club at their annual community service awards event held at the historic Broadalbin Hotel.
Each year, the Broadalbin-Perth Lions Club presents awards to graduating seniors from Broadalbin-Perth and Mayfield Central Schools, acknowledging these students’ community service as demonstrated by their involvement and activities in school, church and local organizations.
Broadalbin-Perth Lions Club President Bob Townsend said, “we come together to celebrate some very exceptional young adults as well as show our appreciation to all of you who are partners in our mission of ‘We Serve’”.

This year’s Mayfield recipient is Timothy VanKleeck-Eagan, Jr., who received $2000 towards his future endeavors. Applicants for the award are submitted by the district to the Broadalbin-Perth Lions Club. A committee reviews the applications and selections are based on their overall commitment to the Lions’ mission of “We Serve.”
VanKleeck-Eagan is a Mayfield Central School District senior who is also on track to obtain his associate’s degree in 2027 through HFM PTECH (Pathways in Technology Early College High School) and SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College. He has been recognized with the Extra Mile Award, Emerging Professional Award, and has made both Principal’s List and Dean’s List. VanKleeck-Eagan is also the recipient of the NYS Attorney General’s Triple “C” Award, which honors students for demonstrating “Courage, Character, and Commitment”. The Triple “C” Award celebrates young people who succeed in academic pursuits, participate in community service, display leadership skills, or overcome personal obstacles.
VanKleeck-Eagan plans to become a social worker and is looking to continue his education at SUNY Fulton-Montgomery Community College and then SUNY Plattsburgh.
The evening was also an opportunity to “celebrate Partners in Service”. As a formal ‘thank you’, the Broadalbin-Perth Lions recognized organizations who have partnered with them including Mayfield’s own Backpack Program, National Honor Society and Key Club. The Mayfield Health Office was also recognized for partnering with the club to provide vision screenings to pre-k and kindergarten students. Mayfield staff Taylor VanSlyke, Alyssa Nellis, Jenna Salvagni and Jake Benaquisto were in attendance to accept awards.

The Broadalbin-Perth Lions Club is a part of Lions Clubs International, a network of volunteers who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities including vision preservation, hunger relief, youth development, and environmental protection. The Broadalbin-Perth Lions Club serves the greater Broadalbin, Perth, and Mayfield communities.
