MCSD to return to charging for school meals as federal aid ends

July 21, 2022

Dear Mayfield Families:

As we all prepare for September, Mayfield Central School wants to make you aware of a significant change that may impact the families in our community. During the pandemic, school districts received federal aid that allowed all students at Mayfield Central School District to eat school meals free of charge. These funds are no longer available. As a result, Mayfield Central School District will revert to pre-pandemic practices of charging for breakfast and lunch.

The meal prices will be going back to the 2019-2020 meal prices as follows:

  • District Wide Breakfast Price: $1.35
  • PK-6 Lunch Price: $2.50
  • 7-12 Lunch Price: $2.75
  • Lunch Special (extra entrée): $1.25
  • Student Milk (district wide): $.65

There are several ways for children to receive free meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if anyone in their household receives SNAP, TANF or FDPIR benefits. Children experiencing homelessness, children in foster care, runaway youth or children of migrant workers all qualify for free meals when a member of their household fills out an application for Free and Reduced Price Meals. Families with Medicaid may qualify, depending on their income. Families without Medicaid may qualify, depending on their income. To determine whether your family qualifies, please fill out an application for Free and Reduced Price Meals. Only one application needs to be filled out per family.

The application may be downloaded from this website and is available at any of the school offices. A copy of the application will be sent home the first week of school with PK-6 grade students, and students in grades 7-12 can request a copy from the kitchen staff or the guidance office, if needed.

If you would like help filling out the Free and Reduced Price Meal Application, please contact FRLP Reviewing Official – Lindsay Van Auken at 518-661-8222 ext. 8257, or email at Vanauken.lindsay@mayfieldcsd.org.
