Grade 3 students receive dictionaries thanks to the Mayfield Grange and Bannertown 50 Plus Senior Citizens

Who would have known that the longest word in the English language is 1,909 letters long? Or that the periodic table is SO long?

Mayfield’s 57 grade 3 students will find all of that information and more in their new “Best Dictionary for Students,” which they received today thanks to the generosity of the Mayfield Grange and Bannertown 50 Plus Senior Citizens. The two charitable organizations have been donating dictionaries to Mayfield’s third graders for at least 15 years.

“Together, our organizations are glad to present these educational tools to the students,” said David Newkirk, a retired minister who delivered the dictionaries to the school today. “We have heard that high school students continue to use their third grade present and in many cases they are used by families at home.”

Students in Kim Mashhadi‘s, Ami Clute‘s and Alexandra Lilley‘s classes received the dictionaries. Principal Katria Hitrick also helped distribute the dictionaries.
